It's Wednesday Again...

For those who don't already know, Wednesdays are the day that a group of like-minded people decide to reveal what is on their workdesks, guided by our lovely Julia over at the Stamping Ground.  So if you are of a curious or nosey nature you can pop on over and take a look at the ever growing list!!

I have to admit that nothing has changed on my work desk since last week... I have no idea where the days have gone but gone they are and I have managed to do nothing scrapping related!  Hopefully it counts that I have been doing things that I will be scrapping in the near future...  I have my son on vacation with me and at the weekend we took a trip out to Banff and the saw the lakes and the Rocky Mountains.  What fabulous scenery, if a little cooler than Calgary, which took us by surprise!
Christopher at the lakeside just before Banff.

Lake Minniwanka.... unfortunate name but spectacular views!

Lake Two Jacks and yes, there is still snow on those mountain tops.

LOL... poor Christopher, he knows his Mother is a scrapper and there is no point arguing when she wants a photo... so he gives in gracefully.  These cute bear (oops... Elizabeth gleefully pointed out that this no bear and a moose instead - heck, how was I supposed to know, I have seen neither LOL)!! mounties were in a few of the shops and mall entrances so how could a scrapper resist?
On Monday my friend Odelia drove us to the War Museum in downtown Calgary - not my normal place to visit but I have to say that it is one of the best museums I have ever seen - superbly done displays that make WWI and WWII come alive with exhibits of the dug outs.  We were lucky enough to be able to view the Fyke Collection of Afghan War Rugs which were on display there.  As someone who has always loved Persian carpets of various types I found it fascinating that this subject has become part of the rug maker's culture in Afghanistan and though they perhaps wouldn't be an automatic choice for putting down on your lounge floor, the workmanship and history has to be recognised for its skill and a way of recording history.

  5. I'm so proud of you for making it to my place before I could get here this week. I'm still laughing at the picture of your son with the Mountie. I think it's a MOOSE, though. Maybe bears grow antlers in Canada, though (big grin to get back at you for reaching my place first today).

Love the photos of the lake and mountains. It helped cool me off a bit. It's still hot here.

Here's a tip in case you want to rust something: find or buy a few flat things, like washers (star washers are nice and a package is quite reasonable at the hardware store), and other metal pieces with interesting shapes. Get a plastic disposable container and put enough vinegar to cover the pieces in the container, along with at least a tablespoon of salt. Stir the concoction, put the lid on, and wait about a week. The pieces should have rusted by then. If you have old keys, you will need to sand the finish off them, then add them to the container. You can reuse the vinegar/salt mix for several times, but after a month or so, it will lose its potency and will need to be replaced. Once the pieces are rusted, be sure to wear gloves to handle them. Happy WOYWW.

  8. Ah, gotta love those Canadian Rockies, you'll have a fantastic time visiting them. Head South too to Waterton National Peace Park, another beautiful place. Also, just over the border into Montana is Glacier National Park, which buts up to Waterton. Another absolutely amazing place. We drove the Going To The Sun Road in Montana, they told us you couldn't get to the top as it was still blocked by snow.... in early June. So we got about three miles from the top and found 15 ft of snow still across the road! It's still beautiful though. Have fun scrapping those pages.

See, that unfortunate name thing - doesn't cross their minds does it..have sniggered inappropriately at such things in the past and no-one actually knew why - which is great coz you can pretend to be coughing!!

  21. You have been living in warm country too long. I bet you can tell a gazelle from a giraffe :>) Now you must learn all the ins and outs of cold country. Bears hibernate in winter and Moose shed their antlers. See what you are getting exposed to living in Canada? Who would ever complain, though, with lovely scenery that you have.

You are such a dear (not deer, another animal with antlers) for taking the teasing in good stead.
