What's on You Workdesk Wednesday 5th October 2011

It's that day of the week of the again... the one that comes about at the speed of light and catches me on the hop!!  If you have no idea what i am talking about... pop over to the Guardian of the Desks, Julia, and you will find all the details and the links to all the fabby desks to snoop into!
Chris is home this week so we have been busy catching up on the shopping and this evening we went to the airport and fetched my Mum home to stay with us for six weeks... she has just gone off to bed as it is silly o'clock to her being on French time.
This is what my work desk looks like this week... it has the pieces of Donna's journal there... it really needs tweaking and putting together but I have to admit to not really being an art journal kind of gal... I love them when other people do them and I would love to free myself to be able to smear paint on magazines and glue stuff willy nilly and then do arty farty stuff to the page to make it look awesome.... it really is a lot harder than it looks but this journal... well, the makings of it, have been sat at the side of my desk for a couple of months and I had sort of decided to put it down to experience but then I mentioned it to Donna and she asked me to finish it....
I have to admit I love the cover... it turned out exactly how I wanted it to... which is something of a surprise!! It looks almost metallic and bronzed but its only tissue paper painted onto the chipboard with black paint and then a bronze paint smooched into all the crevices but its really fab looking!!
See?  Isn't a lovely finish?? Now if I could just get that to flow over onto the pages... hmmm! LOL

  1. You could do a tutorial on how you made the patina on your journal! Great looking cover! I'm sure you will enjoy making the inside pages as long as you "stop thinking so much!" That's how kids enjoy their art- they just attack! :^) patsy

  12. Brilliant cover - hope you get round to finishing the rest (or we could send Donna over to sort you out once she has stopped galavanting!!). Maybe you could adopt a metallic theme through the journal?

  17. Love the cover, like everyone else! Sometimes a good place to start on the inside is to do something similar to the cover in different colours and see where it leads you?
    Have a good week.

  20. That cover is simply gorgeous... I adore the colour and the texture. Simply must try this effect. I'm very much getting into grunge and steampunk these days, and aged weathered looks. Your project almost smells like old Russian leather!! Love it. Happy WOYWW.

  24. I wouldn't have thought that it is tissue paper! Wow, it looks stunning - yes, it has a very metallic look. That certainly is a technique to keep and try again.

  34. That cover looks so expensive - really special. I have not dipped into the journal side of crafting, at the moment it is not for me, but I can appreciate all the hard work and creativeness that goes into them.

  35. Not sure you noticed, since both your mom and Chris are home right now, but I've been gone most of this week, and that's why I missed WOYWW this week. And here you were # 2. How did I miss THAT? Also, my e-mail is still down, but I am going to work on it today. Maybe I'll have to change my password or delete and download the program again.

Now you know why I don't keep a bunch of scrapbook paper around. I prefer to make my own papers. Yes, it's more time consuming, but a lot of fun and a great way to get into the joy of painting.

Your journal cover is stunning. No other word for it. I have some bronze glaze and black paint, as well as tissue paper. I may just have to follow your instructions and make some of these papers. Love how yours turned out all rich and gorgeous!

  36. It looks like leather, turned out gorgeous. I'm totally on side with you about the journal thing...and knowing it would just be a mess, I;ve never attempted..god knows there are enough mistakes to make! Donna will be thrilled and you of course, will have bragging rights because you stepped up. Bravo!

  37. Hey there dear friend. I would NEVER leave town and not leave you a forwarding address. But thanks for the concern (grin). Can't get into my e-mail, so this will have to do until I can send you a proper message.

  38. The cover looks awesome. You've made a great texture with tissue and the colour is just yummy. Love the vintage look.
