The Apothecary Shoppe Window
This week's class with Elizabeth was to get the niche cut out of books and decorated and once I had located the clamps the fun began!! Thank goodness for Elizabeth's very detailed instructions and photographs, this was a lot easier than I had first anticipated! OK... the fact that I chose to have quite a substantial niche proved to be pretty hard on the wrists but I knew which word (Words being my theme for my altered book) I had chosen for this and I had all those wee bottles so it was just a matter of making the hole deep enough for them to fit!!
I used 7Gypsies labels for all the bottles so they have fabulous labels with words like Elixer of Opium, Chloroform Liniment and Arsenic Poison.
The definition underneath reads:
apothecary: N. the physician's accomplice, undertaker's benefactor and
grave worm's provider.
when Jove sent blessings to all men that are,
and mercury conveyed them in a jar,
that friend of tricksters introduced by stealth
disease for the apothecary's health
whose gratitude impelled him to proclaim:
'my deadliest drug shall bear my patron's name!'
from Ambrose Bierce Devil's Dictionary.
This looks quite wonderful hun ;0) Dawn xx
ReplyDeleteThat is fabulous Annette. I have some of those 7 gypsies labels - will get around to using them one day! Beautiful niche! X
ReplyDeleteHow fab, that niche was well worth the effort - the bottles look so at home in their space.

LOVE those little bottles and the saying underneath is just perfect!! Excellent job with the niche! waving hi from the hills of North Carolina :)
ReplyDeleteWow!! Well done! Gorgeous niche and bottles :D.
ReplyDeleteYour niche is INCREDIBLE. I saw the photo on my sidebar and nearly flipped out. This is incredible. I can see why your wrists were in need of some serious therapy after that.
ReplyDeleteNow that your niche is out of the way, I bet you are breathing a big sigh of relief. It is all downhill from here, I promise!!
Wonderful niche! I've yet to try one, tho' it does look like fun... especially when used to store your "special" medicinals! Great project.
ReplyDeleteAwesome job on your niche!
ReplyDeleteWOW! I am afraid to show mine now... not that it's fully ready yet... Love all those bottles.
ReplyDeleteWow Annette your altered book is amazing!
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely fantastic. I just love it. We used to have a Temperance Bar near where I once lived (last one, in UK anyhow)and it was full of lovely smells and jars, bottle like these and the most wonderful little cupboards.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the memory - but I have envy for your page now. Must quash it with some of those labels.
Hugs, Neet xx
Wow - you're really moving ahead quickly with this and that's what I call a decorated niche! Much more elaborate than mine! :) I can't wait to see more....
ReplyDeleteThis looks fantastic Annette, as all your little books do!! What a great idea. Love it!
