What's on Your Work Desk Wednesday 9th February 2011

It's been a busy week, with snow and shopping and finishing the chipboard book I started last week but none of that is on my workdesk today... no, I have been rejected.  Yes, totally rejected, I am crushed.  Last month I made a book for Chris to keep all his interwebs stuff in - websites, passwords and that sort of thing.
This is the book in question with its lovely big fat nobbly bead and leather tie.  OK, I admit, when I was adding the bead it did cross my mind that it wasn't really his type of adornment.  Anyways, I made a similar version for Alister, who's birthday it was at the end of January. But, being me, I cannot duplicate stuff, it's boring, so I made a few changes. I decided against a big fat nobbly bead as a closure and went for the hidden magnets instead which gave it a nice sleak clean look.  Yep, Chris saw it... and decided that he wanted the same thing!!  He gave me back his book with the request that it be like Alister's.
So I sort of ignored it and hoped he would forget and be happy with what I had made...
But it kept turning up on my desk.... so here it is...
dismantled....
with the circular section removed to bury the magnet...
and then covered with paper and the other matching hole made...
and finished.... with not a bobbly bead in sight!!
Now, I apologise for the weird colours of the photos, I am in the basement and depending on how sunny or not it is outside the photos change colours and I did mention last week that I would have to look into getting a light box to photograph things.
So I did! Got up early this morning and had it done and dusted in an hour...
It's about a foot and half wide and high and I had a couple of lights for shelves sitting in a drawer so used them.  Hopefully now my pics will be lovely and actually show up the colours they should be!
Happy Valentines Day to all, hope you get lots of chocolates and roses by the dozen!!  I won't, because Chris went to the scrap shop with me at the weekend and I got this....
and this....
to keep all my papers nice and tidy!!  I know, spoilt brat.... ;)

  1. OMG, you got one of those things from Tim Holtz where you move the boxes around. What is d stress? I promise not to say what I thought it looked like, especially with Valentine's day coming and all. And yes, you ARE spoiled. But isn't that more fun than roses? It would be in my world!

Hope you aren't too sore from shoveling snow. I bet you wish it was hot and sandy right about now.

And that light box is a KILLER, right down to the blue lights.

  13. Awesome bit of a shopping spree you had. I would love one of those paper stands. So useful. The book looks great either way but I'd probably be more inclined to go with a magnet too lol At least it will be loved how its meant to be now!

  15. Another gutter brain here I'm afraid!! And Iknow what it really is!! And hey, it's OK to be spoiled - it proves that you aren't spoiled by being spoiled. I know what I mean! I'm with Chris over the nobbly bobbly...although I love the book...I wouldn't have chopped and remade...I'd have just taken the bobble off and put a big pink ribbon around it!!

We don't celebrate Valentines at our house (Hallmark holiday blah blah) but have a Mardi Gras feast instead. I would love to get that fabby haul any time of the year!

  32. I'd rather have a guy who buys me craft supplies than fattening chocolates and flowers that will wilt in a days time. You've got one of the good ones.

  33. He may have made you re-do the book but I think that chap is a keeper! I'd much rather have what you got than roses anyway!

  36. You may be spoilt but you're not a brat!!! These Valentine's gifts are far better than roses I think! And if Elizabeth hadn't mentioned the d stress in her comment I wouldn't have looked a second time - thankfully without anything in my mouth!

  37. What wonderful goodies you got!! And I really should snag your "lightbox" idea and make a set up for me! Star 102

  38. The spoils of your shopping trip are much more preferable to roses (and even chocs)! Lovely book you made for secret codes etc. I think I need one ... everytime this pooter asks for a password, I just go blank! And wow, those paper racks are pretty impressive! My 12x12 paper lives in lots of pizza boxes (new ones of course) all over the floor and they are heavy when you fill them up!

  39. When you were talking about the cool light box you mentioned "dusting", what does that mean? I need to make a light box too and haven't looked into it yet. I have a good box, what do I need to do to it? Thanks so much, ms.cheryl

  44. I love those Valentine's goodies, especially the shelves. I quite agree about not repeating projects. I hate doing that. In fact istis probably part of the problems I have had with my present project, knitting the shawl. Having done it once, I am bored with it, and it does take so long, no matter how fast you can knit.

  45. Lovely book! Now I would think the nobbly bead would keep the book from getting lost and that would be terribly handy plus it was lovely, but nevermind lol. It looks lovely altered too. Lovely toys :D The light box is fantastic, I need to make a larger one, thanks for the inspiration :D. #101

  46. WOW you are a lucky lady! Much better than choccies cause stash is calorie free and even better than flowers cause they only die after a few days so I would go for the stash each time too! Well done on the light box too, now you just have to keep the kitties out of it LOL!

  47. Oh I lurve your craft space, I am in the garage and understand fully on the photo problem, what a wicked idea,a light box, I may have to pinch that idea. A good repair job on the book, shame the knobbly ead was made redundant and am now drooling over the stuff you bought too!!

    Thanks for sharing

  48. All those fab bits for valentines day, we are not buying for valentines day as in a week and half after Ade is taking me to Milton keynes for two days and I have workshops with tim holtz while there, I got this for my bday and my valentines gift is to buy me bits from the workshop. Guess we both have fab partners and we are spoilt!!! Lol

  49. Men eh?

Fab work hun! Just a thought you will need to consider with your light box, and that is the issue of hard shadows - consider trying a second, smaller box, with the sides cut out and "windows" covered with vellum, and then lighting THROUGH the semi-transparent paper. It makes the light less harsh! Looks great though - your box is huge! Just wish I had the space for it!
Speaking of which, I've tagged you on my blog - swing on over to take part!
