I had to go to hospital today...

So, I had been reliably informed that the place to go was the SAAD Hospital in Al Khobar and made my appointment accordingly. So this was the front of the place, it is beautiful, has the most amazing inscriptions in Arabic on it and appears to have cornered the market in marble.

Oh and you know how our hospitals at home have a little room for a chapel hidden away somewhere down some long corridor? Well, none of that at this place, this the mosque for the hospital...

So Chris and I pop in the front door and head for the reception desks.... no, this is not a 5 star hotel... this is the reception area... where they take your details (and check your medical insurance ;) ) before sending you off to your appointment.

and yes, that is a chandelier hanging over the reception desks... and there was more than one of them!!

So having a half and hour to spare for the appointment we thought we would have a cup of coffee in the cafeteria...
Yep, there's those chandeliers again (they must have got a job lot from somewhere)!!

and this was the ceiling of the cafeteria... it seems almost insulting to call it a cafeteria... I have eaten in some nice restaurants over the years and most of them wouldn't compare well with this cafe!!

So I made Chris stand in front of the side table and mirror that was next to our cafe table... I think most folk thought I was a tad touched taking photos in a cafe.... but then they don't know I am a scrapper... and we photograph everything!!

and this is where Chris had to sit and wait... because men aren't allowed past this point where only ladies can enter...

  2. WOW!!! There is a private hospital near London Bridge that I thought was posh but it pales along side this....

    Hope everything was okay.

  8. I never thought I'd say this, but what a beautiful hospital - as you say it's more like a 5* hotel. If we had those in England though it would encourage hypochondria lol.
    Hope you're ok though Annette

  9. Having had a visit to one of our not so nice NHS hospitals this morning I must say how nice it all looks. They definitely know how to make the surroundings nice. I hope the treatment is just as good and you are OK.

  10. That stained glass is stunning - I love stained glass.

What an amazing building - I love how some of your photos look like they were taken by stealth ;) Were you being a bit naughty taking them? Ooh I do hope so.

Hope you are ok and it was nothing to serious - though you were in a fabulous place to be ill!

  11. I can understand their beliefs and everything but when you are just taking pictures of architecture it seems daft doesn't it?... a relative of mine nearly got arrested in Cyprus I think it was, many, many years ago for taking photos of bullet holes in a wall. They thought she was a spy and eventually let her off with just confiscating her camera. How scary to have to think about compounds being blown up! Glad my sleuthing skills were on target though :P I love it! For some reason that put a big grin on my face imagining it :D
