What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday 25th January 2011

On my work desk this Wednesday is my new cutting mat!!  Pretty eh? Chris bought if for my birthday and I hate to make it dirty and all cut up... it is from the new range by Ingvilde Bolme...  and as you can see I also picked up some her inks... they are like teeny weeny irons!! :)
I managed to finish the second little book of secrets and it is now winging its way to the UK so hopefully by next week I will be able to show you them both.
On my desk you can see the makings of a birthday card... male cards are even more of a challenge to me than normal cards... so hopefully our friend Alister will like this one.
I have heat embossed the letters and clock gears and they look quite nice now... not too glitzy for a malae card, I hope!!
On my other desk - where the old mat now resides is Alister's birthday gift... which brings me to the subject of Pinterest.  Anyone else spend hours pinning all and sundry items to their Pinterest boards and never actually get around to doing any of the stuff that is pinned?  Don't get me wrong, I love Pinterest, I think it is a brilliant way to organise all the things you take a fancy to and to be able to go back and find them without delving into your computer history.... but I pin and I pin and I pin... I never actually do any of the stuff!!  So my resolution for this year is to work through my boards and actually try some of the ideas and tutorials... which is why Alister's gift is wrapped in brown paper and has popsicles/lollipop sticks on it... I have had the idea pinned for ages and never got around to trying it out... I quite like it!! :)  Of course, it only works with rectangles and squares... wrapping round objects is always a nightmare and popsicle/lollipop sticks wouldn't really work.
Don't forget to pop over to Chief Inspector of Desks aka Julia for the linky list of noseyness!!

  1. Love your new mat - what a gorgeous colour. Judging by the 'irons' (if I am looking at the right things) this seems to be a signature colour.
Great 40th card and love the lollipop stick idea for the wrapping.
Thanks for sharing Annette and Happy WOYWW. Hugs, Neet #6

  4. Awesome color for that mat! Mine is dull black and getting pretty damaged. I might ought to look into a new one...hmmmm... I love Pinterest and spend a lot of time pinning. I have tried to start being more organized with it ie catagorizing like tags, journals, cards etc. I actually have made a few thing or used an idea I have seen. Hope you have a great week. Thanks for sharing that awesome card! Vickie #27

  7. Great card, and the wrapping idea is good too - I don't go to Pinterest as there are already not enough hours in the day...
Your new mat is a fab colour. I had to buy a new one recently as I warped my old one by having my meltpot on it....doh!!

  15. Great card and gears are so right for a male card. Sorry, couldn't zoom in to look at the ink pads as I'm allergic to irons and ironing and didn't want to set off sneezing.

  20. Just my "potty brain" but I read FARTY rather than forty :) And yes to Pinterest. But what I find is that just looking at the pins I pin inspires me. I don't often make something exactly like I see, but I do remember a technique I may have seen and then do something different where I can trace the roots to a pin. Does that make sense? Is it a time suck? Most def. But it still lubricates my brain :)

    Happy WOYWW!

  25. Love your aqua cutting mat ... second mat I've seen today that isn't dark green. So far I haven't been drawn into Pinterest because I fear it's possibly addictive and I just haven't got the time!!! However, love the original wrapping. Cards for men are not easy, but I like yours ... the recipient should be well pleased. Have a great week. Elizabeth x #47

  26. Hi Annette, great 40th card and I love the idea for the gift wrapping. At first I thought it was done with tags.
I know exactly what you mean about pinterest and waste so much time just looking. My DDs email with links and a plea "Mum, can you please make this for me", so whilst I don't use the ideas for myself I end up doing all theirs.
Love your puss in the previous post!

  30. Your card is so fitting for a manly man!

I haven't gotten into the pinterest thing yet and am worried that I would spend even more time on the computer and less time crafting, especially since I work full time (except on Wednesdays.... not too productive on those days ;-)

  31. I totally get the shape of those little inkpads, but please..is there a handle you have to have for them or something to make them erm, bigger? Liking her signature turquoise - a bit Martha, non?
Sure Alistair will love the card, shiny metallic letters are good..not quite bling but satisfying for the maker!

  34. I have not actually fallen into the Pinterest trap yet, it sounds like something I could lose myself in, so I am avoiding it like the plague. LOL
Your card looks great, I struggle with male cards.
I played with Ingvilid's tool at the previous CHA and loved it. Enjoy yours.

  39. Sorry I'm late visiting, but I didn't play this week. I figured no one would want a repeat of last week's horses.

But I'm in awe of that new cutting mat. I have one that is about 8 inches long by 4 inches wide. It doesn't do much except works OK for cutting pages from an altered book.

I clicked on the Ingvilde Bolme link and was super impressed with her scrapbook pages. I never saw the inks, though.

That card is very creative and I really like how you made it so extremely manly. Love that!

Sorry to read about the Christmas gift. I will get started on something very soon for you as a replacement. But, like you, I am rather challenged at the moment, and mine isn't the result of Christmas, but of a water leak to add to my computer frustration. Have a great WOYWW.

  49. Love the card, and your new goodies. I have hundreds of bookmarks (I rarely remember to use) which I'm converting into pins which I use frequently. Last night I hit the recipes and I was starving by the time I went to bed lol.

  50. Oh yes! Pinterest sucks my time but cons me into believing I am doing something creative!

  51. Good for you, actually using a pinned idea from your Pinterest list. :-) I am the same way -- pin like crazy and rarely make anything from the inspiration. I must say, time is a factor!
