This is the house across the road... such a shame as they only had that roof done about 4 weeks ago!!
So I have been down in the basement playing with the tray that I picked up at the thrift shop a couple of weeks ago... the bright yellow one...
It really didn't have much going for it in that colour... but I could see it had potential as one of those 7Gypsy type trays that cost about $20... this was $2.... which was fine by me!!
I gave it a coat of brown paint...
then a coat of bronze paint... and a coat of crackle glaze...
then painted it black and watched it crackle... I like that bit best!!
So that is what is on my desk today... all the bits and pieces to go into the sections...
and to add a bit of interest I took a shot of the corner where I sit and play
and then a swing to the right to reveal the wall... which is dire need of a tidy up!
and a close-up of the tray as it is now... it just needs glueing into place before I change my mind again!!
Don't forget to pop over to Julia's for the linky list!!
You saved a TON on that 7-Gypsies rip off. I like it! So are you training to be a pyromaniac or do you plan to use those matches in tramp art? Just asking!
ReplyDeleteI forgot to mention that I am SO glad you are safe. I had NO idea Calgary got tornadoes.
ReplyDeleteI'm really NOT stalking you, but yes, I have already got all my decorations out. I put my little trees out Friday while my company was sleeping. In fact, I showed a few photos in yesterday's post.

Oooh love the tray - its great when a project works out well and also is a great added bonus when its a bargain too isnt it! Love your craft room - you have the same ikea storage as me! Glad you are ok with the tornado I remember when I went to Toronto (about 22 years ago now!) and they had a summer storm and it was frightening just how many huge trees were blown over! Thanks for sharing. Sunshine Girl – No 4

Tramp art was made from about 1880 to 1940. It was made from things people had on hand, including match sticks. Here is one site that might help:

Hi there and thanks for the peek into your creative zone. It looks like there is loads going on so thanks for sharing. Hope you have a brilliant week and have plenty of creative time! I love how that tray turned out; well done you! I was wondering what you would do to it when you first showed us. Isn't it great when so see the possibilities in a bargain buy!

You've done a fantastic job on that tray, you wouldn't believe it was the same psychedelic yellow!! Your poor neighbours with their new roof, gosh. Glad you are safe, I guess you'll be looking forward to the snow next - lol xx
ReplyDeleteThats so nice.. loveely idea and will look lovely on your wall...
ReplyDeleteClaire #45
Your tray is looking very good - don't we just love a bargain, shame I never find anything this good.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for your neighbours, must have been a very strong wind. Quite windy here on Saturday, it blew the cover of Mr B's scooter and we had to go searching for it - ended up in a garden a few doors down.

Gah, you've really had some weather since you've been in Calgary! Glad all is safe..hope your neighbours can get fixed before a load of snow drops. Love the tray...;ove that you need to glue it down to stop yourself fiddling about any more...I know that feeling. How do you know when it's finished then, if you don't glue as you go?
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you've had such high winds, and your poor neighbour, having all that damage to their roof. I love your creative space - it looks so bright, and well organised! As for that tray, well, it's just gorgeous... What a total transformation! The crackle glaze effect is amazing. I've done quite a bit, but never with that lovely dark look. Happy WOYWW, Shoshi #62
ReplyDeleteAnnette, so glad to hear that you are safe and sound with the weather that you have been getting.
ReplyDeleteI love what you have done with the tray - totally amazing. However, I was wondering about all those matches too...........LOL

Fabulous work on the tray and love your crafting area :)
ReplyDeleteHi Annette, I think we got the other side of your gales over here - torrential rain too - my garden sieve blew next door and is still there now, I'll rescue it when the weather improves :) Your upcyled tray looks absolutely fab and would cost a lot more that the 2$ to buy now. Hope your week is a good one. Elizabeth x #111
ReplyDeleteWell this made me make a pit stop at the thrift store after work .. no luck on finding a tray but I'll keep looking thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYour tray looks awesome. Glue it down! We just had the roof on our house replaced due to weather this past summer when it hailed marble size hail for 20 minutes! Glad your roof isn't damaged. Thanks for sharing and have a great week. Vickie #67
ReplyDeleteEnd of November is really late for tornadic activity, especially that far North. I bet you were in the basement protecting your stash! Hope the neighbours can get the rooves fixed before the snow and cold arrive. Love that $2 tray, get the glue out quick before you change your mind.

You got skillz girl! Who would have known? It looks like a million. Glad you hunkered down. Sorry about your neighbors.
ReplyDeleteCor Blimey! That tornado certainly caused some havoc - thank goodness you got off lightly but it must have been a bit unnerving to listen to it all. Glad you were able to shelter in the basement with your cats.
ReplyDeleteLove your tray, when it got to the black paint and crackle I said "I like, I like very much" so it was lovely to scroll down and find it finished. Love the tiny doll at the top and that penny farthing is adorable.
Elizabeth, Bleubeards mum, has asked me to get in touch with you but I cannot find an addie on your blog. My addie is on my blog on the right and I wanted Elizabeth's snail address. Can you please get in touch.
Hugs, Neet xx 26
