WOYWW - 19th June 2013

Here we are at Wednesday and I am halfway through my 'home alone' week already!!  I have been playing, and it seems like such a long time that I just sat and went with the flow... evidence of my efforts is in the two previous posts.  But... this is what is on my work desk today... yep, I got Pinterested... was looking at stuff and found a pic of these little paper folded kimono dressed dolls and had to have a go... with varying degrees of success! LOL
At the moment they look like aliens in kimonos... if I could just find some black paper for their hair they might actually look presentable... oh and do NOT even try these unless you have really thin paper...
just out of interest and nothing to do with kimonos or aliens... when I watch the TV in the evening something throws stones at my front door... ping... ping.... ping... and this is the mess I wake up to in the morning... not stones but pips!!  I couldn't figure out where they were coming from until I looked up...
Just to the side of my front door is a palm tree...
and its got little red berries hanging from it... so I have figured out what is happening... the possums are going up the tree after dark and eating the red berries and throwing the seeds at my front door!! Blimmin' cheek!

If you are wondering why I am showing you aliens in kimonos on a Wednesday please pop over to Julia's and she explains the phenomanom  WOYWW nose amongst desks!

  1. This is TOO funny. I love the little "alien" dolls. So cute and clever. I've done quite a bit of origami in my life and I agree that the paper has to be very thin for the folds to work. Thick paper or cardstock doesn't work at all.

I thought you got rid of those possums. Looks like they've returned from the woods and are on a revenge campaign!

Happy WOYWW. The gal with the cat who is without a number

  3. I once made one of those kimono dolls - don't ask me where it is but it will be on my blog. Enjoy making them and showing us.
Gosh - were you not spooked by the stone throwing? I would have been scared witless thinking someone was throwing stones at my door. But then I am easily spooked!
Halfway through the week - won't be long now before Chris joins you - make the most of the crafting time.

  4. Lol! I was once surprised by a possum sitting on the back fence at my parents house. It was HUGE and creepy looking. I didn't let the dog out, closed the door, and went back 2 mins. Later and it was gone. The dolls are super cute, on the other hand. Not creepy at all, despite being hairless. ;)

Now, the iPad is just too hard to use for commenting,so back to it later...

    Happy WOYWW!

  6. Hi Annette,

The origami dolls are cute! You need more patience than I've got to do origami :)
You're lucky those possums are only outside. They're not cute when they find their way in to your ceiling and start tap dancing on the bedroom ceiling in the wee small hours!

  7. Possums are to cheeky lol and your aliens look like they are coming along really nice and seems like thin paper is the only way to go with that many folds

  8. I love your little aliens, they are beautifully folded. Love the colours. Gotta love those possums, just wait until they move into the roof to get out of the cold. I'm sure they have hob nailed boots on.
Have a great week and stay warm.

  17. Oh, those dolls are just lovely! Once a friend gave me some origami paper, but goodness knows where it got to! I reckon it would be perfect for these young ladies; but I don't think there was any black! My daughter's friend who moved to Australia is always drowned out on Skype by a noisy possum in a tree outside her room: little rascals, eh? Julie Ann xxx#65

  18. Had to laugh about those dastardly possums! I love the washi dolls and haven't seen that style before. Funnily enough I was making some at the weekend to go in my Asian Flag Tag Book. I have several designs and will have a go at the ones you made to add to my collection.
Looks like you are having a good play on your home alone week!

  20. Happy WOYWW. You are so lucky to have such gorgeous tropical trees outside your door - our trees are definitely a lot less exotic. I had a 'week alone' last week - but as usual only got 10% done of what I had planned. Rich is away all day today, so again planning a lot - but will probably just comment on blogs for several hours!! Ali x #79

  23. Seems that the possums have been your erm, welcoming party! Mind you - if I could get up the date tree...
Loving the aliens, and that you actually are doing something you've pinned - natural for you. I spend time putting myself off by looking at Pinstrosity!

  24. I think your aliens in kimonos are going to be fab when they've got their hair dos. Your possum problem is a bit more exotic than our neighbour's chickens leaving little messages all over our grass (and I don't mean eggs!) This is one of the things I love about WOYWW - we get little insights in to stuff all over the world - how cool is that? Have a great week MMx #70

A home alone week (now that would be my idea of heaven), aliens in kimonos (I'm thinking that could make a great kiddies project for work...mmmm have to think about that one) and those cheeky possums!! I wish I had a palm tree by my front door too (I do have a very big bamboo I n the back garden!). Happy WOYWW and thanks for stopping by. Cindy #18

  28. Your kimono dolls look sweet - oh and at least the possums aren't in your roof - its like thunder here when they run through the complex - I am the middle unit of 8 units and they het some speed up running from one end to the other some nights... Happy WOYWW Mxx #110

  34. Had a wee chuckle at your "alien dolls"!

If I could stay off pinterest, I could make way more cards and scrapbook pages!!! It is so addictive!

  35. I'm sorry but those origami alien dolls are really freaky! But then, I've always hated clowns etc...brrrrrrrrrr. I skipped past that photo pdq.
However, I LOVED your telephone ATC box! What a fab kit that is, it made up really well. It did tickle me that you got it in the land of the anti-Brit though!
And may I suggest an old fashioned catapult and ping the pips back at the possums. Satisfying... ;-)

  40. Hullo Annette well how are liking living in the Sunshine state? and yes have some of those red berries in my yard too can be the bats as well as the possums..
You would never ever see a palm in our yard but unfortunately both neighbours have them, which I think is mad. Their roots are very invasive and block pipes that are 15 feet under ground ~ how do I know? dont ask! has happened twice told my neighbours next time they pay for the plumber!
Ah the origami ladies lovely cards above, too thanks for popping over, happy WOYWW Shaz in OZ.x #29

  41. Fun, having a week to just DO ART! Loved the possum story. I didn't even know that palms had berries on them. I'm staying away from Pinterest. Spending too much time in "my room" already. Hubby misses me, lol!
    Have a great week,
