This is my desk bright and early this Wednesday morning... had to have a good clean up after getting paint everywhere yesterday doing the turntable drawers and I am now going to set to and start making all those chipboard drawers! When I took this photo a few minutes ago I had to laugh... if anyone out there doesn't believe in sublminal messaging... just take a look at this!
I have spent a good part of the last week looking through all my papers to figure out which ones I wanted to use on the turntable drawers... and then I spotted these and thought (quite smugly) they will be perfect!
Hmmmmmmmmmmm, now I wonder why I thought that??? ;)
This is the long cupboard to the left of my desk... and late last night I had a good sort out of what was going to be there... it's a nice to have bug and bigshot where you can use them... and all my dies and embossing folders were still in their packaging and took up a lot of room in one of my cubby holes... so earlier this week I had a light bulb moment! See the orange stripey book at the end of the shelf?
Yep! I made a book for all my embossing folders using the Kathy Orta hinge binding system! I love this way of binding books...
Would you look at that? This book has 20... yes, 20 embossing folders in it and it isn't even bulging open!
I put a pocket on each side of the page to hold the folders...
I added tags to the page with an example embossed onto cardstock and a little tag telling me who and what.
Added some ribbons and bling to the tags and voila!! I am so pleased with the end result and now I don't have 20 folders in their packaging slipping and sliding about in a drawer.
Don't forget to go over to the leader of the desks, Julia at the Stamping Ground, and link up for the ride of the week!
That is one kewl little system and love your embossing folder so sharp looking hugs Nikki I'm posted Here
ReplyDeleteHMM. I also wonder where you got that idea. That's REALLY subliminal. Had to laugh at how incredibly similar that paper is.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any of those embossing dies. When I was at Kathy's I took photos of how we made stuff using the embossing folders. Her Big Shot wouldn't accept them, so I gave her all the innards to the Big Kick she gave me, and she gave me her Big Shot innards. After all, she gave me that machine, and I don't have any embossing folders, so it was only fair she got to keep the things that actually worked best for her. She didn't trade machines with me, because I had trouble running her machine. But I gave her all the plates, etc. from mine. The machine she kept didn't have any of that stuff. I know, it probably isn't making any sense, but I said all that to say I love how you stored your embossing folders!!!
Happy WOYWW dear friend.
I can't figure out why you thought that paper would be perfect. LOL...Like that system. Is it hard to put together? Love the binder you made for you embossing folders. Happy crafting
ReplyDeleteI have been rearranging my bigshot and dies and folders this week too. I just love the beautiful folder you have made to house your embossing folders. And I can't wait to see your turntable drawers on completion. Have a great week and Happy WOYWW! Danie
ReplyDeleteWas it just a happy coincidence that the papers you chose for the turntable were identical to the example photo?? The storage folder you made is just AWESOME!!! How long did it take to make?? I just LOVE everything you make. You are one talented lady.. I admire you. Have a great week. (((HUGS)))

Oh I love that storage folder! Is there a Youtube on this technique because it looks fab and I love all the little labels. I really mean this - everything you do looks absolutely gorgeous! I wish we were not so very far away and you could pop over and give me some lessons in making lovely storage. My ink pads are in a horrible splitting ice-cream box in my cupboard and every time I go to them I think 'Have to do something about this...' and those drawers 'who'd a thought it???' Have a great WOYWW! Julie Ann xx
ReplyDeletePs I am now #12 - went back and discovered the return of Mr Linky!

Well now - tidying up huh?? I call your week's effort being extremely creative. That book is beautiful. Can't think why ever you thought those drawers would look good with that paper - but I really like the paper!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
Margaret
Hi Annette, definitely a sublimally led choice, but they are perfect papers and isn't it a coincidence that you just happen to have them in your stash :) And that has to be the poshest embossing folder storage I've seen so far, functional and decorative at the same time - love it. Mine is so utilitarian in contrast even if it does store twice as many. Love the tags with the make/name of the folder on it. Elizabeth x #16
ReplyDeleteOh. That might be a genius way to store the folders. I may have to get this binding system into my head. Although I prolly won't go as far as you with the tags...but really, the thought of neat, still square binders on the worktop is quite lovely..you clever thing you. Am loving your suckered-ness with the paper for the turntable..I thought that sort of thing just worked with me!
ReplyDeleteI can't tell now if I clicked publish or away! Here's a test..
ReplyDeleteI absolutely *adore* your embossing folder book! If I owned any embossing folders, THAT is how I'd want to store them!
ReplyDeleteHmmm... Actually, I see no reason it shouldn't work for background stamps too... :-)
I don't suppose there happens to be a tutorial for said wonder?
P.S. The first embossing folder I'd buy is that Tim Holtz one! lol.
ReplyDeleteHow super organised! That's a great way of storing all your embossing folders - mine sit on a shelf and all fall out everytime you look for one! The turntable will look great when you get it finished in those papers!
ReplyDeleteBernice #39
Great storage system - and I can see it having more uses too, maybe skinny dies, masks, stickers - the possibilities are endless - thanks for sharing - I love picking up on other people's cunning storage ideas. Got any ideas for storing cling stamps that doesn't take up ALL your storage space? Have a great week MMx #42
ReplyDeleteHi there I just love those papers and your turntable drawers. The book folder for your embossing folders is fabulous. You are so talented. I loved the little book Annie has made and found your instructions for it and am going to have a go. Happy WOYWW Anne #24

Love that folder!!! How fabulous is that - and so handy too. What a brilliant idea to have the tags with the name and a sample.
ReplyDeleteNow to your turntable drawers. They look fantastic and I agree, that paper is just right - hold on a mo! So does the manufacturer - ah well. At least you made the right decision.
Thanks for your words on visiting me earlier.

Just goes to show how brilliant you are and the embossing folder book proves it yet again. Great idea.'Sandra @69
ReplyDeleteWow, aren't you the clever one, number one spot and maker of a fabulous folder. It really is fantastic, you put so much into it, just perfect. You'd think they would just put the paper in the box with turntable and save you time wouldn't you. I'm sure yours will look better than the picture :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great week, the suns out!!

Happy WOYWW!
ReplyDeleteI love that drawer turntable, and it will look so good, I need to find out where to get one now!
Your folder book is inspired, I really could do with one, I have a folder organiser but it is overflowing and I need to store all the new folders, some with stamps to match!

Cool you're número UNO after all the linky troubles. :) Love love the embossing folder storage book!! Happy WOYWW! Nan G #75
ReplyDeleteWow and double wow to your embossing folder book, it's totally amazing. You could honestly sell those. Glad you've bitten the bullet on the spinny rack thingy! The paper are great, it'll look fantastic! Just like the advertising in fact!!!
ReplyDeleteI was a little stunned to get that ride. David had been taking out some special guests he had at the track and was stopping right by the grid shelter to drop them off and pick up another one. Me and a colleague were helping, for safety reasons, when on his final run he pointed straight at me and just said "Get in"! I opened my mouth to protest (having already been on track the day before in a supercharged Lotus!), when he said " I said, get in"... well you just don't get offers like that every day do you!!! I didn't need clean pants but I was shaking a bit!!
Hugs
Brenda
Wow What a project! Thanks for sharing your WOYWW! This is my 1st one!!! -Tera #98
ReplyDeleteA great way to store your embossing folders. Percfect paper choices for the turntable drawers. How very handy!
ReplyDeletei love organizational stuff and decorative @that . great combination. about the carousel drawer is that pre-made or did you make it ? Ive been meaning to do a kathy orta hidden hinge thing one of these days . for right now, I'll be making scrapbook kits for taking to scrapfest 2013. I imagine the next photo you wont even be able to see the desk :)
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome idea for the embossing folders, I will be borrowing that one for sure!! LOL

ReplyDeleteHey Number 1!
ReplyDeleteBrill embossing folder book.
thanks for the snoop and hope you have time to visit my place.
Blessings,
Robyn 94
You are making me very jealous with all your organising ;) I love you embossing folder...err folder. I would love one of them for mine but I only have 4 embossing folders haha! x
ReplyDeletehttp://rachaelkellett.wordpress.com/
The only thing wrong with the fab Kathy Orta-esque folder for embossing folders - is that I have too many of the damn things to be able to make a folder for! So it'll have to be one of her boxes, adapted, and with dividers in it (Christmas, flowers, steampunk etc...)
ReplyDeleteBut your version is lovely, a great way to be able to see what you have and how it looks - another fab creation from the Mini-Book Queen!
Your embossing folder storage ROCKS! I have mine in a plain black binder with sleeves. Not a deocation in sight! Oh my! Love the papers, and the tags! I can't wait to see your turntable!!
ReplyDeleteBack again. happy crafting #125
ReplyDeleteWhat a great book you made, I took notes, I want to make one now. thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAnn #114
I think it was a bit of subliminal marketing going on...with that paper! Like your embossing folder idea, though I have too many to do that with! #85
