What's on You Workdesk Wednesday 7th September 2011

My work desk is looking relatively tidy this week as I have just finished playing with my Graphic45 Le Cirque papers...
Just a few bits and pieces left out that I haven't quite decided what to do with... that is one of my problems, I have no idea when something is finished... if I leave it there I will go through and add some more... and then some more!!
This was a fun project that I have been meaning to do for ages now... well, ever since I went to buy paint and picked up a huge wadge of paint chips (in fact, the wadge was so fat that Chris decided he wasn't really with me and made go through the check-out on my own)... in the UK they are skinny stripes of varying paint colours but out here they give you BIG one colour chips.... they are gorgeous!! This brand of paint (Behr) even has little leaf shapes that pop out of each chip and let you have plastic rings so that you can snap them all together... it's almost as if they want you to collect them all!!
See what I mean?  This particular make is my favourite.. the rectangular ones are about 3 1/2" x 8" and the lovely shaped ones are about half that size.
So I simply covered the backs of them with the le Cirque papers...
and made a pair of chipboard covers in the same size...
I decided to use a bookring to hold them all together as I wanted them to be able to move freely.
Added lots of ribbon and chipboard shapes to the pages...
Made flowers from the papers and used more paint chips for the stamped words.
As you can see, I didn't want to disguise the fact that they were paint chips, I think it adds to the circus feel of it that it is unusual to have the names of the paints on the pages.
It was fun to make and is fun to flick through.
Don't forget to pop over to Julia's for all the details of WOYWW and the links to all the fabulous desks!

  9. Gorgeous stuff Annette as always, I've finally picked myself up a small minibook and started playing last night, but lost my way with what to put onto it - then I saw your beautiful book and well - enough said - enough inspiration there for multiple books - thank you!

  10. Isn't it amazing how colours and pattern can be so spot on. That La Cirque range really does conjure up images of faded glory, old time circuses or tents. Love what you've done with it!! xx

  19. Wow, fun stuff to see. I am the opposite of you; I often want to be "finished" with a project before it actually looks totally finished. Just impatient I guess.

  20. Oooh love the book looks like you had lots of fun making it! I never seem to be able to finish things either and always go back and add - yours looks finished to me though :)

  21. Wow! why can't we get such generous paint samples here ... we get those stingy little strips that can't be recycled at all. Love your book - the colours are gorgeous and the ribbons pick up all the bright colours so well. Have a great week. Elizabeth x #50

  26. Oh that works! I have often wondered why paint chips were so popular! Now I need to get my sister in CA involved. I don't blame Chris tho', I'd have made you walk the till on your own too!!

  27. Yes, I'm late. No, I'm not a little grease spot on the pavement or the floor, because the temps have decreased a bit. Speaking of which, once I publish today's blog post, I'm out the door to mow the lawn. My work never stops!

Aren't these paint chips fun? I never thought of using scrapbook paper on the back side. I've only backed them with other paint chips. Your idea is incredible, and I can see a whole new tag book in the offing.

Hope your Wednesday was great. I had to be out the door super early both Tuesday and Wednesday, so couldn't stay up to join Julia this week.

  30. I'm back again just to let you know that whilst she is my muse and the book theme is 'nothing new', the underlying moral of the story is going to be 'beauty should go down to the bones not just sit on the skin...'

also i dig the dinosaur foot photo

  31. Oh dear you have given me something to think about on my next trip. This time it will be a case full of paint chips. Better put them in my hand luggage as they will weigh if I collect lots and lots.
Absolutely fabulous what you have done with them, but then you know I am such a fan of your work and of Graphic 45.
Thanks for sharing - Hugs, Neet #4

  32. That is SO imaginative, using the paint chips to make a mini album! Fabulous colours. These days in the UK they don't usually give anything away, but I managed to get hold of 2 old books of wallpaper samples in our local decorating shop the other day - great textures and colours, and lots of potential for altering. I bought some small pots of different coloured emulsions for backgrounds (cheaper than acrylics) and someone had been in and had some mixed and never collected them, so he gave them to me free as well! Thrilling!

  35. So glad I popped in for a late snoop or I would have missed a treat. The book is fabulous and the colours amazing. Love that G45 range. As for the paint chips... I spotted some bigger ones here in England and as I was selecting colours I noticed they were £1 each piece!! I put them back PDQ!
