WOYWW - 9th January 2013

Here we are at another Wednesday already, this year seems to be going by at a rate a knots and it has only just started!!
On my desk is a wooden cigar box... well, it started life as one and is undergoing some renovations!!  Whether these will be a success is still to be seen but I am having fun with paints and stuff so it doesn't really matter.  To the left of the cutting mat is my lazy susan, bought for the kitchen some time ago and I'm not really one of those mix a hundred spices sort of cook so it has been adopted for holding the paints and bits and really does make life easier as I can just whizz it around to get to something!!
and I cleaned out a drawer (well, it sounds better than I was looking for something) and turned my back for 10 seconds and this is what I found.... ;)

I did say last week I was going to find time to play and I have and I feel so much better.... until yesterday when I got an email from the relocators asking when they should send the man to survey what I am putting in the household shipment that is going to Australia. :(  I think I will manage to squeeze a couple more days of playing before I have to change tack and start organising things.  It's not the what is going bit that drives me nuts but the inventory and insurance form that goes with it... yep, you have to list everything you are going to put in a box and give it an insurance value.... think about it... kitchen = pots, pans, china, glasses, cutlery, tools, then its the clothes from the bedrooms, the computers, printers etc and then the best is the scraproom... as crafters we know it is always best not to put a price on what we have in our stash or we would frighten ourselves, our husbands and draw horrified cries from strangers... how many sheets of paper at 50p a sheet?  You paid how much for all those Tim Holtz dies?  Who needs 156 rolls of ribbon? Stamps... don't even go there...
I am off out this afternoon to a funeral of an old neighbour who died on my birthday last week, she was a lovely lady and will be missed, but I will poking my nose in blogs later.  Her house has tarmac driveway all around it on 4 sides and when my son was little he loved to ride his bike around and around and around her house... giving her a wave on each circle and she never complained or shouted at him.... which would have happened if it had been me in my kitchen window, let me tell you! ;)
Happy WOYWW to you and don't forget to check out the linky list over the leader of the snoopdesk fest, Julia!!

  1. I feel for you on the relocation front...can't wait to see the cigar box finished and what a cute kitty...wish I had one too.

  2. You are so right about the value of things. First, I don't even want to know what I spend (I figure it makes me happy and it's my money, etc). But what a pain to have to do it for everything!! Ugh. I feel for you.
I especially feel for you because over the last couple of years we have done some packing and moving and unpacking and removing, etc. etc. Although Australia sounds lovely. I have a niece living there now and the pictures are great.
My sweetie and I were just talking about how to deal with the corner in the craft room and there your lovely cat has shown me the answer....ah. I love the way the world works sometimes.
Hope you get a bit of fun time this week.

  3. Is that Pandy? If so, she looks like she has put on some weight. And if it's Tom-Tom, he must have gotten a dye job (grin).

OK, I had no idea you had to do all that every time you move. I did it for insurance, but moving every two years must have put a damper on things. I suggest you leave a lot of those boxes at home, and take only the craft supplies you really, really need. After all, you KNOW you will pick up things in Oz. Of course, if you need help packing, I could be available (grin).

  4. I forgot. I was just looking back and saw several posts I missed when I couldn't get on blogger. Call me impressed with that cupcake. I'm glad heir will be staying, and I loved the aerial view of your house. Put a lot in perspective that way.

  5. Good luck with your latest relocation - it seems to be the story of your life! I couldn't face the idea of listing everything with a value - eek!! as you say - stamps OMG!! Hope the funeral isn't too upsetting but she sounds a lovely lady. Helen 7

  6. I really do not envy you filling in the insurance form, my DH would surely have a problem with his blood pressure if he knew how much my things cost! Sad that you have to attend the funeral of such a lovely lady, hope it all goes well with that and your move too. Happy WOYWW, Anne x #47

  7. thanks so much for sharing.. and yes feel for you in that business of the listing of things sigh or ganization always not an easy thing to some..and glad you are still crafting - just in case you want to know it was 38c here today but not for long as we have sea breeze but some places in Brissy have that today too but mainly down south at the mo which is unusual, happy WOYWW Shaz in Oz.x

  8. It doesn't seem like five minutes since you updated your profile to tell us you were moving to Canada! now you are off to Australia. I think you should keep the crafting boxes to just tools and paints - that way you can buy all the lovely papers and stuff in Australia....works for me.

  9. The insurance tedium is made worse by suddenly knowing what your 'important' life things are worth to someone else, and then knowing that they will argue over every value in the event that you actually have to make a claim. argh. As your baby boy is movinghome, are Tom Tom and Pandy staying here too? Knowing you, youll come back from Brizzy with an adopted Lorikeet or something!
Glad that you've had play time, it is good for you - and those ASkinner projects have really hit the spot, huh!

  14. I LOVE my lazy susans - although I use them for spices in the kitchen not for crafting. I do have a desk caddy that spins and I could not craft without it, even if it is outstandingly ugly. Can't believe you are packing up AGAIN. Doesn't it drive you MAD?? Having said that I kinda feel like I have to move every 3 years or we just seem to accumulate too much stuff :)

Have a good one and play while you can....

  17. I told hubby I was never moving again unless someone came in and packed it for me, no questions asked. No way could I pack it all up and give it a value. Ugh. I let my daughter help me organize ONCE, and she called me a glitter hoarder. Never again!!

I am new to WYOWW and a friend of Sandee. I hope you get a chance to check out my blog and desk.

  19. Oh my relocation sounds a nightmare! Good luck with it all. I have a Lazy Susan on the shelf above my craft desk with my glues and adhesives on - I must look up why they are called Susan. Happy Wednesday. :o)

  20. I don't envy you all that packing, I have lived in this house for 44years, seems like you've been everywhere! I have just remembered I have a party susan stuck in the bottom of my baking dish drawer, I will have to pick up on your idea. Hmmm on second thoughts leave it where it is my desk is not big enough!

  22. What a mammoth task you have to face! I filled just one storage box of about 24 inches long when I was moving a couple of shelves of mounted stamps and it came to over £500 at a rough count! Eeek! and I've so many more and unmounted and inks and, and, and all the rest! I don't envy you.

So you're off to Brisbane, how wonderful! We have a very good friend there and spent a wonderful fe weeks going around all his relatives and friends in Queensland. What a holiday that was. But the thought of packing up all our stuff gives me the chilly willies....you deserve a medal!

  29. Thanks for visiting me, I can see you are a BIA expert. I will make some little notebooks up soon/first I promise. I got the smallest wires in the startup kit I bought so they will be perfect for that. Need to get acquainted with what size wires are required for thickness of book hmmmm any tips would be appreciated but I have seen your BIA list on your sidebar so I will have a look there. Thanks BJ#52

  31. I don't have drawers, just boxes and boxes...so I have a cat...he is not mine but he's just moved in, (about a year full time now) sitting with me, behind me on my craft/computer chair, pushing me out! What are they like!?! Is that a turn table thingy on the left? I can see that mine may never 'turn' out as I want it too, coz that looks sooo much easier just to leave it and fill with whatever comes to hand..! Happy New Year and WOYWW!

  33. Argh, moving again! I think I'd rather be the one already on the ground in Oz (even if it meant being on my own at Christmas) instead of packing up a house yet again! Happy belated birthday too.

  34. The thought of putting a price on my stash fills me with horror. But at least you have a cute cat in a drawer to help you along! Thank you so much for stopping by; it's nice to know I'm not the only one with a skull. Your also made me want to make a Christmas themed one!

    Cheers,

  35. Oh my word I cannot imagine listing and putting a price for each item of stash I have. My DH would have a heart attack :-) Like how the cigar box turned out. Your photo of your cat is cute. Thanks for visiting me. Sorry I'm late. Anne x

  36. i don't even like to think about what i've spent on my stash of supplies. but i only spend small amounts at a time, surely it can't count up to that much.......... happy woyww

  37. I've got a lazy susan that doesn't get much kitchen use either. It would certainly be better employed in the craft area. Love your cat in a drawer ... SO cute!
Whereabouts are you going to in Australia? There are at least half a dozen WOYWWERS here!

  40. You have given me a scare now - I am preparing to move to England and suddenly it seems like more then just pack your bags and boxes and go! Huh! Moving to Australia??? Well that is a far way to go but it is good they invented internet - the world is much smaller now!
    Lots of hugs,
