Last Minute Stuff!

So I have just sat and made the serviette rings for the Christmas table.... because, yes, I did not bother to pack any!! OK, not works of art, but they will do nicely and add a festive touch to the proceedings!!
The table gifts are made, wrapped and labelled - which means I can use these as place names too! (Which saves me spending another hour doing that little job)!!
and if you have never lived in Saudi Arabia... these fridge magnets I made this morning will seem a touch weird, to say the least... but everything you do or plan to do here has to work round everything closing for prayers a half a dozen times a day... so if you want to fill the car with petrol? You arrive and find a sign that says... Closed for Prayers.... if you go to the supermarket... they are closed for prayers, you are out shopping... and all of a sudden the lights are dimmed and everything shuts.... yep, for prayers!! So I thought the guys might find these amusing as a momento of working and living here.

  1. Just popped in to wish you a fabulous Christmas Annette and to thank you for all your fabulous stories and works of art this year.

  2. Love the magnets Annette.

Your table will look very festive - have a great Christmas and a very Happy New Year.

    Toni :o)

  3. Think your projects all look wonderful! Merry Christmas to you and your family!

  4. Love the way you are making your first Christmas in Saudi uniquely yours!

Wishing you a fabulous, if 'different' Christmas (the principle is still the same) and a great year in 2009

  5. Merry Christmas Annette and have a great year ahead !!!

  6. I wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year!

  7. I just found your blog and wanted to wish you a great Christmas. Perhaps all of your festivities are over. We are in Turkey and although we are not in the same situation as you it is a 99.99% Muslim country. We are celebrating our Christmas today on the 26th as our daughter has an exam this morning. Since life is just going on outside as if there were no Christmas it doesn't seem to make a big difference. The point is to celebrate God's gift to us anyway!!

  8. Dear Annette,
I thought of you often yesterday & hope that your Christmas wasn't too "Bah Humbug-ish" without Christopher there.
As usual I see you spoilt your guests with all sorts of thoughtful little VV details :o)
I'm sure it was a wonderful celebration & you will look back on it one day as unforgettable even though it didn't seem like your "perfect" idea of Christmas at the time.
Sending you, Chris & the camels lots of love...

  9. Awesome magnets - I need one of those for sure. You would think after living here for nearly 10 years that I would have got used to prayer time. But no - usually we get down town...and you guessed it...we have to sit in the car and wait for prayer to finish. LOL

I love what you have done with everything. Using the gifts as name place settings is a stroke of genius.

Hope you have a wonderful day!

  10. Hi VV...I hope you had a wonderful Christmas x
My made some lovely Christmas things to spoil your guests with!
Thanks for all your inspiration throught the year as well....hugs RubyMay x

  11. Love the magnets and your gorgeous gifts and napkin rings. WOW!!!

Thank you for taking the time to leave your comment, it is truly appreciated - sort of confirms that it is more than my Mum and husband that read this thing! :)
